Grunau - Home Away From Home

It’s amazing how much people can impact your life with their stories and experiences.   Grunau was not originally a scheduled destination, but after a couple in Croatia stressed how pretty it was I decided to change my itinerary.  Initially this was not part of my schedule, but I decided to cut a few days from Munich and add it in.

Staying at the Tree House Hostel in Grunau had to be one of the best decisions I have made on my trip.  It is located on a stream in the middle of the woods, and the hostel provides everything you could possibly need in order to make you feel like you’re at home.  Home cooked meals, drinking water from the stream, comfortable beds and a welcoming staff are just the beginning.  You can climb the ski mountain to the summit, take a bike ride to the lake, or even climb to a nearby waterfall.  I would recommend staying at least four nights, and I promise towards the end you’ll consider saying longer.

Grunau and the Tree House are not defined by its attractions and meals though.  Its atmosphere allows you to open up to those around you and find the bond that has brought you together.  Regardless of why you’re traveling, you are bound to find a common ground with everyone through a fireside chat by the stream.

The people that I have met over the last four days have put my travels into perspective for me.  They have helped me understand that I am not in this alone, and that other people seek the same experience I have wanted for so many years.  I have also learned that following your dreams is more intimidating than it is difficult.  Everyone here has broken out of the norm and reached for something more.  That something which everyone is reaching for may be completely different than the person next to them, but at the end of the day we have are all aiming for a common goal.

Tomorrow brings on a new experience, meet new people in Munich for a night and purchase my Oktoberfest outfit.

We’re Never Going Home!
